FGF21 in ALS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) may respond to a hormone called FGF21, which helps cells use energy and cope with stress. In ALS, blood and muscle levels of FGF21 are higher, and higher blood levels were linked to longer survival. The researchers see FGF21 as a marker of disease and a possible target for therapy, but the study was small and needs confirmation in larger studies and animal models.
